School Traditions & Special Events
Our traditions and special events are an important part of life at NEA. They bring children, families, and teachers together in fun, meaningful ways throughout the year.

One of our favorite traditions is the Heritage Concert & Potluck, where children sing and dance to songs from around the world, and families share homemade dishes. It’s a joyful way to celebrate the many cultures in our community.

We also host events that help families connect, like our Moms’ and Dads’ Socials and our All-School Summer Picnic, where families from all of our locations come together for activities, entertainment, and community time.

Throughout the year, children enjoy special parades for Earth Day, the Fourth of July, and Halloween, as well as festive winter celebrations with a holiday show, cookies, and milk.

Parents’ Night Out is another favorite—a complimentary evening where children stay at school for games, music, and fun with friends while parents enjoy a little time to themselves.
We also try to teach children the value of kindness and giving back. Through our cookie sales fundraiser, NEA families help support Chicago HOPES for Kids and children experiencing homelessness.
